The Morningbird Foundation works to create opportunities
for STEM education for K-12 and Higher Education.
Our mission is to create content, programs, products, and services that promote education and opportunities in STEM for those communities underrepresented and underserved. We fulfill our mission through the following services:
Education and Training
At the core of the foundation’s activity is education and training. The communities that are historically underrepresented and underserved when it comes to STEM education receive specialized opportunities for experiential learning at various levels. Through the Morningbird Academy (www.morningbirdacademy.com) students at the K-12 level receive introductory training in areas such as additive manufacturing, robotics, coding, computer aided design/modeling, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and other key STEM subjects. Workforce development training is provided through the academy in the form of specialized certificates. These certificates prepare the students to be active learners and ready to contribute to the workforce upon completion of the certified training modules.
Generating Interest in STEM
The foundation carries out numerous activities that spark interest in science, technology, engineering, and math to young people. These activities include lessons, demonstrations, competitions, clubs, and other such programming led by our corps of scholars. The goal is to produce and maintain a pipeline of learners that engage in STEM at an early age and continue throughout well into higher education.
The Morningbird Foundation’s corps of scholars consist of global thought leaders in the STEM fields as well as those well versed in public policy. These advocate in the halls of government and industry to focus resources and awareness to the needs of STEM education, the formation and maintenance of STEM pipelines, the disparity of access for underrepresented and underserved communities.
Research and Development
Research and Development are at the foundation of scientific discovery. These activities lead to technologies by the application of engineering with mathematics at its core. Technological advancement and innovation has the purpose of making society better. The Morningbird Foundation engages in research and development at multiple levels. The corps of scholars leads these efforts while engaging with students and other constituents in the community in order to produce meaningful innovations. Some of the work product produced by Morningbird scholars are:
- Scholarly publications
- Intellectual property
- Technology licensing agreements
- Presentations, conferences, and symposia
- Research internships
- Research partnerships
- Grants and contracts
The Morningbird Innovation Community is established within the Morningbird Academy. It is a place where members can interact, share ideas, and exchange projects such as 3D printed parts, computer code, and other STEM based items. Multi-member projects are carried out virtually under the guidance of the corps of scholars. The key purpose for the Morningbird Innovation Community is to tangibly demonstrate the interesting aspects of STEM and to get people working together to achieve things by using it. Success will be measured by the number of its members, the amount of activities carried out within it, and some innovative projects that result from it.
